What Intelligent UI feels like
Intelligent UI turns answers into things you can use. These two demos work the way the feature does: inside the answer, without opening another app. They run in your browser, nothing is sent anywhere.

Another OpenAI example: a roast plan with a guest-count slider that rescales everything.
These are local demos of the concept. In ChatGPT, the model builds equivalent widgets from your question, using its own component library.
Prompt builder: make ChatGPT build one
Intelligent UI picks the format on its own, but you can also ask for one directly. Pick a task, add a topic if one is needed, copy the prompt, and paste it into ChatGPT. If the reply comes back as plain text, ask again and name the control you want, for example "add a guest count slider".
How it works
OpenAI trained GPT-6 to pick the answer format that fits the question. Under the interface is a library of native, streamable components and a compiler that builds the layout while the model generates it, so the widget appears piece by piece instead of waiting for the full answer.
The model also decides when plain text is the better answer. OpenAI is open about the rough edges: there is still work ahead on the model's design judgment. Some answers will be over-designed, and some questions that deserve a chart will still get a paragraph.
GPT-6 can also start answering while it is still reasoning. OpenAI says this cuts the wait for web-search answers by 44% on average against GPT-5.6 Instant. That figure comes from OpenAI's internal tests and has not been independently verified.

Turn the visuals down
On the web, open Settings, then Personalization, then Layout and Visuals, and choose Simple. OpenAI says this cuts visual and interactive elements, but some may still appear. You can also add a preference such as "keep answers concise" in Custom Instructions, which the model reads before deciding on a format.

Is ChatGPT Intelligent UI free?
Yes. OpenAI rolled it out to Free and Go plans starting October 8, 2026, one day after paid plans. It has no separate price. The rollout to all accounts is gradual.
Why don't I see Intelligent UI in my ChatGPT?
The rollout may not have reached your account yet, your desktop app may be outdated, you may have the Pro reasoning option selected (it runs GPT-6 Astra, which does not support Intelligent UI), or the model may have decided plain text was the better answer. Try ChatGPT on the web with a clearly visual question.
Can I turn Intelligent UI off?
You can reduce it. On the web, go to Settings, then Personalization, then Layout and Visuals, and choose Simple. OpenAI says this cuts visual and interactive elements, but some may still appear. You can also ask for plain text in your prompt.
Is Intelligent UI available in the OpenAI API?

Are the calculators ChatGPT builds accurate?
Sometimes. No published audit covers how often they are right, so verify anything you will act on: ask for the formula and assumptions, recompute in a spreadsheet, and test an edge case.
